Girl Power – Reach for the Stars
March, 2011
An a.i. solutions team of engineers participated in the annual Girl Power event this March, held at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab (APL). The volunteers involved were equipped with a table running FreeFlyer simulations on a laptop, handout materials about missions such as SDO and Landsat as well as other projects we are involved in with NASA. We shared with many girls (mostly middle and high school aged) and their parents about what we do, what they want to be when they grow up, and ideas about what they should study in school to be an engineer too. It was fun and quality time was invested.
Book Drive
March, 2011
March may be a chilly month here in the Maryland area, but our Lanham office was smokin’ as the a.i. solutions team collected over 650 gently used books for the Books for America Organization . These donations will be distributed to various Children’s Organizations, Public Schools and Libraries serving disadvantaged communities, Women’s Shelters, Adult Literacy Programs, Youth Centers, Veteran’s Hospitals, Homeless Shelters and more!
Beach Cleanup
February, 2011
A crew from a.i. solutions was on-hand to clean up beach trash after Shuttle Discovery's final launch. We had a great time, and picked up over 10 - 55 gallon bags, a few larger items such as destroyed skim board, boogie boards, lots of cigarette butts, and the funniest, a “Keep Brevard Beautiful” trash bag, that was found going over the dunes under the crossover.
Local Girl Scout Troop achieves an a.i. solutions Patch
January, 2011
Three troops (Girl Scouts, Brownies and Daisys) gathered to learn and earn an a.i. solutions space and science badge. Our diverse team of Aerospace Engineers, Scientists, IT, and Emergency Management Specialists lead the troops in creating their own emergency management plans -- which correlates to the girl scout motto, “Be Prepared”. The girls also learned about earth orbiting satellites and the issues and challenges associated with “space junk.” We had lots of fun sharing our knowledge and raising the awareness of our next generation of leaders!

S.O.M.E
November, 2010
Our a.i. solutions team of volunteers gave up a Sunday morning to work in the S.O.M.E. soup kitchen in the Downtown DC to serve 230 homeless to a hot breakfast. With over 9000 homeless in the Washington, DC area alone, this was a drop in the bucket.
