Colorado Springs, CO – On October 17, 2007, the latest GPS satellite (GPS IIR-17M) successfully launched using the new Launch and Early Orbit, Anomaly Resolution and Disposal Operations (LADO) ground system. The new system replaces the legacy mainframe based Command-and-Control System (CCS), employing the latest in ground system technology and providing integrated mission planning and mission operations support for the GPS constellation of satellites. In addition, implementation of the LADO system allows all GPS constellation support, from spacecraft separation to end of life disposal, to be consolidated under the authority of the Air Force 2nd Space Operations Squadron (2SOPS).
Because on FreeFlyer's seamless integration with other tools, advanced flight dynamics capability, and ability to manage an unlimited database of satellites, FreeFlyer was chosen as mission planning subsystem for the GPS LADO ground system. a.i. solutions developed, integrated, tested and delivered the FreeFlyer-based subsystem, under subcontract to Boeing, to provide spin axis attitude determination, coarse and fine spin axis precession maneuver planning, AKM maneuver planning and execution, de-spin maneuver planning and execution, and earth acquisition planning, as well as other maneuver and mission planning functions for the GPS satellites. The US Air Force gave high praises to the GPS LADO development and operations support staff, particularly citing the great teamwork between Air Force personnel, satellite contractors and ground segment personnel in the development, integration, test, and transition to operations of this critical space support asset.
The GPS LADO system will support future Block IIR missions scheduled for December 2007 and early 2008, followed by the GPS IIF series of satellites to be launched in early 2009. a.i. solutions is proud to be part of the GPS LADO Team! |
